Dear Washington Wizards,

Happy October! The leaves are turning, the air is getting crisp, and our school is buzzing. This month is full of exciting activities, classroom projects, and special moments that we can’t wait to share with you. From pumpkin-inspired creativity to cozy reading corners, there’s so much happening, and we’re thrilled to keep you in the loop as your child explores, learns, and enjoys all that October has to offer.

Shout-Outs & Spotlights

Breast Cancer Awareness: If you saw us all in pink today - A big thank you Mrs. Halupka and Mrs. Zeug for for organizing and hosting our staff Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser and breakfast this morning!

Fall Festivities: Our annual Fall Festival, held yesterday, was a tremendous success thanks to the PTO and all participating families! We are so grateful for everyone's help in making it such a special event. The baked goods were delicious, the pumpkins were beautifully creative, and the students thoroughly enjoyed all the games and activities. Thank you for helping our students create such wonderful memories.

Fourth Grade Fun: Shout out to our amazing fourth grade teachers and chaperones who created a memorable experience for our 4th Grade students this week on their first field trip to Waterloo Village.

Reminders for Families

Weather permitting, parents are invited to attend the outdoor halloween parade on Friday, October 31st starting at 2:30 pm on the backfield. They will change into their costumes after lunch/recess.  Students K-2 can come to school fully dressed in their costumes. Students 3-5th should bring their costumes to school. Oversize costumes and props of any kind are not permitted and Students must be able to walk outdoors safely in costume.

Family Conferences will take place on November 10th from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on November 17th from 2:00-7:00 PM. There will be no school for students on 11/10 and a minimum day on 11/17. Additionally, November 18th is a delayed opening with a 10:20 start time. You should expect an email from your child’s teacher at the end of this week with more information and a link to sign up for a conference. If you would like any other staff members present, please let your child’s teacher know.

The Student Council is collecting leftover Halloween candy to donate to the  “I Matter Project”, a local charity that supports and caters to homeless adults living on the street in Paterson, NJ! If you’d like to participate, please send in your extra, unopened candy between November 3rd and November 14th. Each homeroom will have collection bags for your child to donate their extra candy. Once all of the candy is collected, it will be handed out in small snack bags throughout the winter months. Let’s share some sweetness and make a difference together! 🍬💛

Please join NJ4S and the Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council for a series of workshops throughout the year. These will be held at Eisenhower Middle School at 7:00 pm. Please sign up here or on the link in my email. The October 21st presentation will focus on bullying rights, supports and solutions. The December 2nd presentation will focus on attendance and making every day count! We hope to see you there.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Kelly O’Brien
