Dear Washington Wizards,

We wish you and your family a restful and enjoyable long weekend. We hope this extended break provides a chance to recharge, relax, and make cherished memories together. Our dedicated staff is also looking forward to a well-deserved break and perhaps even a warm cup of coffee! We will see you back on Tuesday, ready to continue the exciting work in our classrooms. Enjoy your time off!

Shout-Outs & Spotlights

Broadway Bound - The parts list for our upcoming spring musical, Finding Nemo, was released on Wednesday. Congratulations to all fifth-grade students! We are so excited to see the amazing show you put on.

Media Moms - A massive shout-out to all the incredible moms throughout the school who have dedicated their time and effort to help out in our media center so far this year! Your contributions truly go a long way in making our media center a vibrant and functional space for all our students. We are so grateful for your willingness to lend a hand, and the positive impact you've had on our school community!

Reminders for Families

We look forward to seeing you all at the November conferences! Here are some reminders and guidelines on how you can make the most out of your upcoming conference:

  • Parents should enter via the main entrance. Please be prompt and contact your child’s teacher if you have to reschedule. If you arrive late to a conference it will necessitate a shorter conference as our teachers are on a very tight schedule and don’t want to cut into anyone else’s conference time.

  • Fall conferences are a time to discuss progress to date and map out goals for what’s ahead. It’s only November, so your child should be approaching grade-level standards and may not have mastered them at this time. Be realistic about their goals, celebrate what your children are doing well, and share a growth mindset for what’s ahead.

  • Prior to the conference, think about any questions you might have. If you have questions that you know will go beyond your allotted time, respectfully request that you have a follow-up phone call.

  • Most importantly, don’t forget to celebrate with your child after the conference!!

  • Please check the Lost and Found in the MPR during conferences on Monday, November 10th and 17th. All unclaimed items will be donated after these dates.

We currently have 3 different community service opportunities happening at Washington. Please participate in as many as you can.

  • The student council encourages your support in raising funds for those affected by the recent hurricane in Jamaica through our Coins for a Cause donation drive! Please send your child in with coins of any amount to put into their grade level bucket. We are excited to see how much each grade can raise!

  • The Student Council is collecting leftover Halloween candy to donate to the  “I Matter Project”. Please send in your extra, unopened candy between November 3rd and November 14th.

  • During the week of November 10, we’ll be collecting items such as healthy soups and beans, fresh apples, toilet paper, and any other non-perishable foods you’re able to contribute. Please bring your donations in a reusable bag if possible, the pantries can put those to good use as well. Thank you for supporting our neighbors in need, every little bit truly helps!

Staffing updates - We are thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Viaud and Mrs. Lynch, who will be returning from their leave on November 24th! We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Berwind and Ms. Steinberg for their dedication and positive impact on all our students during their time here. You will be greatly missed! We also welcome Mrs. Claudia Livoti as our new lunchroom aide and Ms. Joanna Connors who will be joining us as the new instructional aide in 4H! Welcome!

Picture day retakes are scheduled for Wednesday, November 19th. If your child was absent on the original picture day, or if you are not satisfied with their previous photos, this is your opportunity for a fresh take! To ensure a smooth process, please make sure to inform both your child and their teacher if you would like them to have a retake. This will help us organize the students and minimize any disruption to their classroom schedule.

Finally, Washington will recognize Veterans Day this upcoming week. Happy Veterans Day and thank you to all of the veterans in the Washington School community for their sacrifice, bravery, and courage in defending the rights and freedoms we have in our country.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Kelly O’Brien
