Whole School

Dear Washington Wizards,

Today, take a moment to reflect on all the things you’re thankful for. Thanksgiving is about more than food and family, it’s a time to appreciate the kindness and support we share every day here at Washington School. We’re thankful for our amazing students, our dedicated teachers and staff, and our supportive families. Whether it’s a friend who made you smile, a teacher who helped you learn, or the fun of being together, there’s always something to be grateful for. Let’s carry the spirit of gratitude with us, not just this week, but every day. A simple “thank you” or kind word can make a big difference! Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and joyful Thanksgiving!

Shout-Outs & Spotlights

Surprise - We had a wonderful surprise visitor! A big thank you to Mr. Blake for joining our November school-wide morning meeting. We also celebrated the ribbon cutting for our beautiful "Onward and Upward Stage”, which our students are already enjoying and using regularly.

Yummy Tummies - This week, our teachers were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by Olivia Day of In A Pinch Kitchen, a former Washington student, thanks to the generosity of our amazing PTO. We are so grateful to our families for recognizing and celebrating our teachers’ hard work!

Coins For a Cause - Thank you to all our families for your generous donations to our "Coins for a Cause" fundraiser benefiting families in Jamaica. As a school, we raised $1,423. Families contributed an additional $1,160, and our amazing PTO matched that amount!! This incredible effort brought our total raised to an astounding $6,000!

Reminders for Families

If you have a last minute change in your child’s dismissal, please call the main office. Teachers are not consistently able to check their email throughout the school day.

We have seen an increase in candy being included in student lunches since Halloween. Students are often eating this candy before their main meal, sometimes resulting in them not finishing their lunch. We ask that you please speak with your child about the importance of healthy meals.

To ensure a smooth drop-off process on Morse Avenue, please pull all the way up and do not exit your vehicle. Have your student and their bags ready to quickly hop out. If the drop-off lane is busy, consider alternatives like the lower lot for parking, parking further down Morse Avenue and walking or parking on Woodland Avenue.

We will have our second presentation from NJ4S on 12/2 at 7pm. This presentation is focused on the Attendance Agenda where they will explore post-Covid attendance trends, barriers to school attendance, and warning signs for parents.  Here is the link for those interested to attend to register for the event and a flyer is attached in our Friday Folders: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4AABA72BAAFFC52-60602275-theattendance

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Kelly O’Brien
