Dear Washington Wizards,

We hope everyone had a restful and joyful February break! As we welcome our students and families back to school, we’re excited to celebrate the connections that were made and strengthened during time away, whether through family moments, visits with friends, or simply sharing time together. Those meaningful experiences help fill our community with warmth and energy, and we look forward to carrying that spirit of connection into the weeks ahead as we learn and grow together.

Shout-Outs & Spotlights

Keeping Us Safe - To celebrate School Resource Officer Appreciation Day; A big shout-out to our dedicated School Resource Officer, Mr. Luis Mendez! We want to recognize his tireless commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and school every single day.

Reminders for Families

Families of 3rd through 5th graders are invited to a virtual information session hosted by the NJ DOE to learn about the upcoming new NJSLA-A assessment, which will be administered this spring. Interested families should register using this link: https://nj.gov/education/assessment/adaptive/info_sessions.shtml

As an update, to align with newly released testing dates/times from the NJ DOE, please see below for our updated NJSLA-A schedule:

  • May 5th-6th - NJSLA-A ELA

  • May 7th - NJSLA-A Writing

  • May 13th-14th - NJSLA-A Math

  • May 19th-20th - NJSLA-A Grade 5 Science

We appreciate the families who participated in last week's I-Ready district webinar. I-Ready family resources were touched on briefly at the end, so I wanted to re-share the video that was sent earlier this winter to help you access these. Please contact me if you have any questions! The next i-Ready assessment is scheduled for April.

Fifth-grade families are reminded to finalize their child's course selections for EMS for the upcoming school year. These selections must be submitted electronically through the Genesis Parent Portal by the end of February. An email with instructions was sent out before break. Please review all directions carefully and ensure you click the final "Submit" button within the portal to successfully register your choices.

Please click on the following link to the website for the future 6th Grade trip. Payments are due at the end of March - 6th Grade Fairview Lake Field Trip 2026 Website.

The PTO and Student council are sponsoring a drive for Families to Families to collect cleaning products for families moving into new homes. Please consider donating a few items, every donation counts! Deadline is February 25th.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Kelly O’Brien
