Dear Washington Wizards,
As we head into March, it's hard to believe how quickly time flies! Hopefully that soon means warmer weather, sunshine, and flowers! This month, our "Ignite the Spark, A New Beginning" challenge focuses on Spark Creativity with a creative expression challenge. We encourage everyone to dedicate time to pure creative joy, whether through painting, writing, or playing a musical instrument. How will your family collaborate on this challenge?
Shout-Outs & Spotlights
Olympic Gold - A huge shout out to Erin Christman and Marybeth Ryan for coordinating our Olympic theme day. Fun was had by every single student! We extend a special thanks to the 130 parent volunteers who were in the building to make this a truly memorable event. After this fun-filled day, your child will sleep great tonight!!
Reminders for Families
3rd-5th Grade Families - The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment–Adaptive (NJSLA-A) and are new versions of our statewide tests. These assessments help families and teachers understand how students are progressing with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Our goal is to give families clear, useful information that supports learning and success. Registration is required by Friday, February 27, 2026. Families can sign up through the New Jersey Assessments Portal under Students & Families by visiting: nj.portal.cambiumast.com/families.html or using the QR code on the attached flyer.
Read Across America Week is next week! We will celebrate reading daily, culminating in our Read-a-thon on Friday. Please see the dress-up days listed below:
Monday - Read my Shirt (wear a shirt with words on it)
Tuesday - Reading is Better with a Buddy (bring your favorite stuffed animal)
Wednesday - Let’s Get in the Reading Spirit (wear your Washington Wear)
Thursday - Cozy Up with a Good Book (pj day - no slippers)
Friday - Finding Nemo Read-a-Thon (wear anything ocean themed)
We are thrilled to begin our One School, One Book program! This special initiative promotes community reading by uniting students, staff, and families with a shared story. Every student (and staff member!) received a copy of The Lost Library yesterday and should have brought it home. This common experience aims to encourage conversation, build connections, and foster a love of reading throughout our entire community. Don’t stress, think of it as a time to read together for a few moments each week as a family. We will be having trivia questions during morning announcements and discussions about the book at school. Please see the below schedule for when to start those chapters. Thank you to our PTO for their generous donation and Mrs. Telesmanich for organizing everything to make this launch possible!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Kelly O’Brien
