Dear Washington Wizards,
March is moving right along, and the energy in our hallways is growing right alongside the daylight! Our 'Ignite the Spark' challenge is in full swing, and we are loving the creative expressions popping up everywhere from budding artists to storytelling masters. This week, we encourage you to keep that momentum going at home! There is no 'right' way to be creative; sometimes the best memories are made in the messy, unscripted moments of playing or building together.
Shout-Outs & Spotlights
Golden Sneaker - We are thrilled to announce KR and 5C as this month’s Golden Sneaker winners! These classes have done a phenomenal job showing all our school virtues during PE. To celebrate their hard work and sportsmanship, both classes will enjoy some well-deserved extra recess time.
Ice Ice Baby - A huge shout-out goes to Valin and our dedicated maintenance team. They have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to shovel and salt the ice through several snowstorms. We are so grateful for their efforts in keeping our school grounds safe for everyone.
READ! - A special shout out to Mrs. Telesmanich, Sarah Docktor and Leah Confransesco for their hard work this week to help our students love reading even more. From planning our spirit days to decorating our library, it was truly a magical week.
Reminders for Families
Starting March 16th, we will join all four elementary schools in celebrating Neurodiversity Week. This important week helps promote awareness and acceptance of differences in brain function and behavioral traits. Throughout the week, teachers will lead presentations and discussions on this topic during morning meetings. On March 16th, we invite all students and staff to celebrate by wearing tie-dye!

This is a friendly reminder that Apple Watches, or similar devices like the Gizmo, are not allowed to be worn during the school day. If students bring them to school, they must remain turned off and kept inside their backpacks.
Our Lost and Found pile is building up quickly! Please encourage your student to check the bin for any missing jackets, sweatshirts, or water bottles, as we would love to reunite these items with their owners.
We are focusing on building math fluency! You can support your child's learning by practicing fast facts at home. For students in grades K-2, we recommend focusing on addition and subtraction. For our 3-5 students, please continue to reinforce multiplication and division. Here are a few fun ways to practice without a worksheet:
Kitchen Math: Have your child help with measuring ingredients or counting out snack items (e.g., "If we have 4 people and everyone gets 5 crackers, how many do we need?").
The License Plate Game: While in the car, have your child add or multiply the numbers they see on license plates.
Card Games: Use a deck of cards for "Math War." Flip two cards at once—the first person to say the sum (K-2) or the product (3-5) wins the hand.
Movement Math: Practice facts while jumping rope, throwing a ball, or walking the dog. Incorporating physical movement helps many students retain information better!
We are thrilled to continue our One School, One Book program next week! We hope you enjoyed reading the beginning of The Lost Library with your children! So far, you have (hopefully) read chapters 1-14. We've met Mortimer, Evan, Al, Rafe and more! Each morning we had some trivia questions about the previous night's reading. Don't forget to read chapter 15 to be ready for Monday's question!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Kelly O’Brien
