meeting

Dear Washington Wizards,

⭐ Laying the Foundation: A Message from Mrs. O’Brien

This week, we are adding another important brick to our foundation: teamwork. Building something great is never a one person job, it takes people working together, sharing ideas, listening to one another, and helping each other along the way. At Washington, our students are learning that teamwork means more than simply working in a group; it means being a good teammate, doing your part, encouraging others, and understanding that everyone brings something valuable to the table. Whether they are working together in the classroom, on the playground, or throughout our school, we will continue reminding our students that we can accomplish so much more when we work together.

🧱Bricks of Brilliance: Shout-Outs & Spotlights

Thank you to Nkki Karras and Erica D’Alessandro for our first event of the year, Movie Night! We had so much fun and it was a perfect evening.

Our outdoor classroom is fully functional again! We extend our gratitude to Quinn and Mr. Paterson for installing new whiteboards and a replacement lock. Their dedication to enriching our students' educational environment is deeply appreciated.

🔨 Tools for Success: Reminders for Families

We are excited to bring back our specialist newsletter! Please find our September Specialist Newsletter in our Friday Folder documents down below to learn more about the fantastic things your children are doing during their specials block.

Our annual Week of Respect will be held the week of October 5th. Please check our Friday Folder documents for more information on this week including our dress up days!

Please keep in mind that the painted parking spots located in the lower lot are reserved for the PTO parking spot winners. We kindly ask that you avoid parking in these spaces. Thank you for your cooperation!

We gathered today for our very first school-wide morning meeting of the school year, and it was wonderful having all of our Washington Wizards together! Our time included greeting friends, playing a fun school supply guessing game, and announcing the first Golden Sneaker award winner for PE. Additionally, we reviewed bicycle safety with everyone. Please assist us in emphasizing that students must dismount and walk their bikes upon reaching the gates and throughout all Washington School parking areas.

September is recognized as NJ School Attendance Month. As you know, punctual and regular school attendance is a critical factor in predicting student success, and is crucial to students remaining on track with their academic growth. Please make every effort to schedule flexible appointments, when possible, outside of school hours to allow for students to be in school and engage in learning activities with their classmates. Thank you in advance for your support, and if you have any questions regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

This week, students in grades 1 through 5 finished in our first i-ready benchmark assessments of the year. These assessments help drive instructional decisions in our classrooms. Teachers use this data to plan for small groups and target gaps in learning. I use the data to identify trends across our school and identify our strengths and areas where more support is needed. To access your child's score report, please follow the steps in the document located in our Friday Folders. There you can find the District Report Code

Sincerely,

Kelly O’Brien, Principal
